Stillness Practices

Fixed Point Gazing

Visual / Sight-Based

An ancient concentration technique where you lock your visual focus onto a single, non-moving external point. It stabilizes the optic nerve, which in turn quiets the frantic internal chatter of the brain.

Instructions

  1. Pick your focal object: Find a small, unmoving object about 3 to 4 feet in front of you (like a knot in woodwork or a speck on the wall).

  2. Soften your vision: Keep your eyes wide open but relax the muscles around your brows and forehead.

  3. Stare unblinkingly: Lock your entire attention onto that single point, trying not to blink for as long as possible.

  4. Return when lost: If your eyes dart away or a thought distracts you, smoothly bring your gaze back to the object.

  5. Let the edges blur: Allow your peripheral vision to naturally soften and fade into the background.

  6. Close and rest: After 2 minutes, close your eyes and rest in the dark internal space behind your eyelids.
