Stillness Practices

Frozen Statue

Somatic / Body-Centered

A playful, low-barrier exercise for anyone who feels too restless for traditional meditation. It turns the act of sitting still into a simple, engaging challenge that calms the motor cortex of the brain.

Instructions

  1. Set a countdown timer: Set a timer on your phone for exactly 2 minutes.

  2. Strike an easy pose: Sit comfortably with your spine tall and hands resting flat on your knees.

  3. Freeze everything: As soon as the timer starts, freeze your body like an exhibition statue.

  4. Lock your gaze: Pick one unmoving speck on the wall or floor ahead and keep your eyes fixed on it.

  5. Let thoughts fly by: Let your mind do whatever it wants, but do not let a single finger or toe twitch.

  6. Thaw on the alarm: When the buzzer sounds, slowly soften your posture and take a relaxed breath.
