Seat Awareness

Somatic / Body-Centered

A rapid mindfulness tool that uses the physical contact points between your body and a chair to stop a spinning mind. It serves as an excellent midday circuit breaker for office stress.

Instructions

  1. Freeze your posture: Stop moving wherever you are currently sitting.

  2. Feel your feet: Drop your focus to the soles of your feet, feeling their exact connection to the floor.

  3. Feel the thighs: Notice the pressure and weight of your thighs pressing against the seat cushion.

  4. Feel the spine: Sense where your lower or middle back makes contact with the backrest of your chair.

  5. Drop your hands: Let your hands rest heavily on your desk or thighs, feeling the skin contact.

  6. Rest in the support: Spend 60 seconds simply letting the furniture hold your entire physical weight.
