Embracing Release: The Power of Letting Go
The MB Journal
Welcome to The MB Journal, a weekly newsletter from Meditation Butterfly for those who are navigating the stages of their own personal change.

As we move deeper into the autumn season, nature offers us a masterclass in release. The trees shed what no longer serves them, conserving their energy for renewal beneath the soil.
We live in a culture that constantly asks us to add... More goals, more habits, more commitments. But true transformation often begins with subtraction.
Earlier this October, I invited a class of workshop participants to lean into that same natural rhythm through a dedicated Reflection exercise.
The October Workshop Exercise: Permission to Release
At the workshop, each participant was handed a simple index card and given a single, grounding prompt:
"This season, what is one thing I give myself permission to let go of..?"
After taking a few quiet moments to identify that one specific aspect of their life (or current situation) they wanted to shed, participants turned to a partner for a unique ritual of connection.
Instead of journaling in isolation, they were asked to tell their partner directly, in their own words, what they were releasing.
The partner’s instructions were simple yet profound: HOLD SPACE.
Holding space means listening and receiving information without reaction, judgment, or immediate advice. The listener simply absorbs the statement and records it onto the speaker’s index card. Then, the roles reversed.
Why Energetic Connection Matters
I designed the exercise this way because speaking an intention out loud to another human being changes its weight. Pairing people together during their declarations creates an act of energetic connection. In that moment, you aren't just writing on a card in the dark; you are letting another person craft, witness, and validate your declaration.
Looking ahead to December 31st, participants will pull out their index cards. They will look at what they wrote and reflect on a simple fact: Either they contributed to the manifestation of that release—or their actions subtly denied it. Regardless of the outcome, they will always remember the warmth and presence of another person who held space for them.
My Own Declaration: Letting Go of Perfectionism
During the workshop, I didn't write down an intention for myself, but recently, I met with my workshop co-host, Esther Lynn-Wiess, at a local coffee shop. I asked her to hold space for me so I could finally do the exercise myself.

My confession to Esther, and my release for this season, centered around a lifelong companion that many of us carry: PERFECTIONISM.
The exact words written on my card are:
"This season, I give myself permission to let go of the need to be perfect—the performative need to show that I have it all together..."
Saying it out loud to Esther felt like exhaling a breath I didn't realize I was holding. The performative armor of "always having it all together" has been heavy. Laying it down doesn't mean lowering my standards; it means raising my compassion for myself.
An Invitation to the MB Community
I encourage you to connect with a trusted friend or your "support & accountability" partner this week to run through this exact exercise. You can choose to set the end of the year (December 31st) as your reflection target, or extend your timeline across both Fall and Winter with a target date of March or April 2027.
Want to do this together?
If your support and accountability person happens to be me, please reach out and schedule a meetup! I would be honored to hold space for you, listen to your declaration, and personally send you a hand-written index card with your intention clearly stated, ready for you to keep and reflect upon.
Let’s give ourselves permission to let go, together.
Wishing you Peace, Grace and Love,
...Michelle...
